Great Job in the Great West Quarter
Sheet Piling (UK) Ltd have recently been awarded a contract for the supply and installation of a permanent steel intensive sheet pile retaining walls and basement cofferdams at Great West Quarter, Brentford, for Barratt West London Ltd.
Some 1500 tonnes of sheet piles are being used in the prestigious £200million scheme which incorporates several different structures all with underground car parking.
The overall value of the sheet piling works, including some deep cut off walls, is approximately £1.6 million and the installation is being carried out by the silent vibration free pile press system.
The silent vibration free pile press system allows the installation of steel sheet piles to within approximately 800mm of existing occupied structures without vibration or noise disturbance to the occupants. The system is suitable for silent vibrationless sheet pile installation into most types of soil conditions with the aid of predrilling or jetting when required.
Steel Intensive basement construction by Sheet Piling (UK) Ltd meets the requirements of BS 8102:1990 grade 2 as defined by CIRIA report 140 using the SPUK Lockbloc Hydrostop System.
The presence of a high water table on the site requires the introduction of a cut-off wall for the shallower areas of excavation and this will be achieved using Sheet Piling UK's Vinyl Piling System. These piles (which are clear of vibration sensitive areas) will be installed using a telescopic leader rig with a variable moment vibratory hammer and a Stabcat Stompper Installation Mandrel. The value of the vinyl pile cut-off wall is approximately one quarter of a million pounds.
Work is currently in hand on the sheet pile installation using 2 No UP150 silent vibrationless GIKEN pile presses. Work is expected to commence on the installation of the vinyl piles towards the end of May.
