5 Star Basement for 4 Star Hotel
In 2005, Sheet Piling (UK) Ltd were contracted by the Cork based Construction Company 'Bowen Group' to design and install the Steel Sheet Piling work for a large, mixed developement which was to include a Hotel, Shops, Offices and Luxury Appartments, situated on the Lancaster Quay in the City of Cork.
The site is bounded by a river and school buildings therefor environmental considerations were of key importance.
Sheet Piling UK Ltd designed, constructed and successfully completed another Steel Intensive Sheet Piled Basement. The entire develpoement rises out of this very large, single storey basement.
Managing Director John Hull explains: "We worked closely with Bowens, and Lead Consulting Engineers - Nial Fitzsimons (Cork Ofiice) to develop the scheme from conceptual design, through to completion."
"The steel intensive basement forms an integral part of the 4 star hotel, and luxury appartment developement, and the design brief required a clean, smart apperance and fully watertight retention wall system."
John continues: "The basement has been designed to meet, and infact exceed, the requirements of BS 8102 grade 2 standard, as defined by ciria report 140, using a SPUK lockblock hydrostop system. The 'clean lines' were acheived using Arcelor AZ 18 steel sheet piles finished with an oilbased gloss paint system."
During 2004 & 2005 SPUK also constructed the 2 storey basement for the Luxury Clarion Hotel basement car park at Lapps Quay in Cork."
