Sheet Piling Commences on Goodluck Hope Development
Sheet Piling (UK) Ltd have recently commenced sheet piling works on the prestigious new Goodluck Hope residential development in East London. The development is being built by Ballymore and when completed in 2020, will include over 800 new homes, 2,000m² of commercial space and the restoration of the Grade II listed Orchard Dry Dock.
The development is located at the River Lea estuary where it flows into the River Thames and is surrounded by water on three sides. The iconic Canary Wharf skyline is on the fourth side.
The area has a strong maritime history with records showing that ships were being unloaded here as early as 1297. In its heyday, when part of East India Docks, tea, spices, indigo, silk and Persian Carpets were all brought ashore and stored in warehouses on the site. As well as shipping, the area supported a community of manufacturers, from coopers to glassmakers, seed crushers to sack and bag makers. More recently artists, sculptors and a variety of makers, as well as designers, photographers and architects have moved in. Some of them are housed in ‘Container Cities’ built using recycled shipping containers.
Over the next four months, Sheet Piling (UK) Ltd will be responsible for installing Steel Sheet Piles to form a new river wall, construction a new Permanent Sheet Pile Basement, installing all associated tie bars and wailing beams, plus the installation of Steel Tubular Jetty Piles. In total around 1800Te of steel sheet piles and associates steelwork materials will be supplied to the London sheet piling project.
The works will be carried out using a variety of sheet pile installation methods with the majority of the plant and equipment being supplied from our own in-house resources. These include Telescopic Leader Rigs, telescopic and lattice boom crawler cranes and crane suspended piling equipment. The overall development is programmed to be completed in 2020.- Ends -
