River Humber Temporary Sheet Pile Launch Pit Cofferdam
Sheet Piling (UK) Ltd are currently creating a temporary steel sheet pile launch pit cofferdam on the banks of the River Humber. The launch pit is an essential first step in the construction and installation of a new 3.36 mile long, replacement high pressure gas pipe tunnel underneath the River Humber for the National Grid.
The River Humber gas pipeline is part of the national transmission system which connects the import terminal at Easington, on the East Yorkshire coast, to the wider national network delivering gas to millions of customers throughout the UK. The new pipeline will connect into the existing National Grid AGI sites and will be 3.36 miles (5.4km) long, of which 3.18 miles (5km) will be tunnelled.
National Grid have awarded the £100m, three year contract to a Skanska/Porr/A.Hak Joint Venture, with Sheet Piling (UK) Ltd being sub-contracted to the JV to provide the temporary sheet pile cofferdam and specialist expertise.
The replacement high pressure gas pipe tunnel will eventually run between Goxhill (North Lincolnshire) and Paull (East Riding of Yorkshire), near Hull.
Utilising one of our Bauer RTG21 Telescopic Leader Rigs along with our Sennebogen 673E Telescopic Crawler Cranes, our expert piling operatives are installing 380No. 21.0m long and 272No. 11.5m long Arcelor PU32 steel sheet piles to create the temporary sheet pile launch pit cofferdam.
