Sheet Pile Security Can Assist Tier-1 Contractors’ Rapid Recovery Plans

The success of the UK economy is very much dependent on having a resilient and robust construction sector after UK lockdown, which is why Sheet Piling (UK) Ltd has put every measure in place to ensure that its Tier-1 contractor partners can trust in its ability to supply top quality sheet piles on time, every time.

We are well aware of Tier-1 contractors’ nervousness about the supply chain post-coronavirus lockdown, but can offer them reassurance and sheet pile security, as the stocking and forward-ordering of sheet piles was a key part of our business continuity plan. For Sheet Piling UK, this is business as usual, with our stock levels of steel sheet piles being second to none in the UK.

Tier-1 contractor procurement managers can rest assured that we have the sheet pile stock to supply their projects and help get them back up and running again swiftly. We are already able to draw on a stock of 8000 Te of new sheet piles and 3000 Te of temporary sheet piles. A further 5000 Te of steel sheet pile orders are already placed for June and July, ensuring a seamless supply of steel piles to construction projects nationwide.

We are also proud to have an exclusive agreement with Emirates Steel, which will equip us with all we need to fulfil our future orders, thanks to planned quarterly shipments of sheet piles. In terms of human resource, we have continued to operate at 95% capacity, which enables us to commit with confidence to deliver both supplies and labour to Tier-1 contractor projects.

As our managing director, Andrew Cotton, says:

“Having a secure supply chain in the construction sector is critical to the country’s rapid recovery post lockdown. We can offer every reassurance to Tier-1 contractors that we can deliver sheet piles on time and to budget, matching up to every deliverable required and playing our part in the UK’s recovery.”

“Some suppliers will, unfortunately, not be robust enough to survive the coronavirus crisis, which will lead to delays and additional costs hitting the supply chain. Due to our planning and strategies, we can offer procurement managers peace of mind, as our stock, resources and liquidity continue to make us a strong and stable sheet pile partner.”

Sheet Piling UK has continued to work on some emergency projects throughout UK lockdown and we will be setting our £1.2m long-reach rig, the TM 12/15 LR back to work on both smart motorway and HS2 infrastructure projects. A sign of our stability and forward-looking approach can be seen in our commissioning of a second long-reach rig, with the same 8.1m arm.

We expect to have this sister rig in a few months’ time and this will enable us to offer extensive and often unanticipated savings to Tier-1 contractors. The rig’s reach removes the need to build temporary platforms on which it can stand whilst sheet piling and this slashes the costs of projects but also, crucially, speeds them up. This may be a key asset for contractors seeking to not just resume a schedule of works but alto catch up on time lost.
