Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products
Emirates Steel Industries (ESI) are pleased to advise the heavy sections mill has recently obtained Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products BES6001 Accreditation at their integrated steel plant in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products BES6001 is the Framework Standard for Responsible Sourcing which enables construction product manufacturers to ensure and then prove that their products have been manufactured with materials which are responsibly sourced.
Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products provides a holistic approach to managing a product from the point at which component materials are mined through manufacturing and processing.
Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products is demonstrated through an ethos of supply chain management and product ownership, and encompasses social, economic and environmental aspects.
Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products deals with aspects such as stakeholder engagement, labour practices, and management of supply chains for sectors upstream of the manufacturer.
The frameworks standard for responsible sourcing – BES6001 The Framework Standard for Responsible Sourcing – sets out the main requirement under 3 main headings:
- Organisational management
- Supply chain management
- Environmental and social issues
To achieve the standard, Emirates Steel have demonstrated they satisfy certain compulsory elements.
The standard also provides a route to obtaining credits under the BREEAM family of certification schemes.
The BES6001 accreditation has been certified by Cares who are UKAS accredited to provide verification for structural steelwork.
The BES6001 accreditation covers the production of continuously cast steel billets and blooms from which hot rolled sheet pile sections are rolled.
