Sheet Piling Works on Inverness West Link Road

Sheet Piling Contractors, Sheet Piling (UK) Ltd have recently commenced works on the Inverness West Link Road for Wills Bros Ltd.

The main scope of works involves the installation of 2no cofferdams within the River Ness which will be utilised for construction of new bridge abutments and permanent scour protection.

Whilst the cofferdams are located in the River Ness, the sheet piling works were carried out by traditional tracked telescopic leader rigs using a series of temporary floating platforms and temporary causeway piling platforms.

This innovative temporary works solution avoided the need for any complex temporary support platforms constructed from the land or floating plant which otherwise would have been traditionally adopted.

In total, 2no cofferdams and associated scour protection were installed together with temporary bracing frames.

Due to the location of the works within the River Ness, all works were undertaken in strict accordance with current Environmental Management Legislation and Industry Best Practice.

The works commenced Mid-August 2016 and are programmed to be completed Mid-September 2016.
